«African Swine Fever is worse than ever», Sánchez-Vizcaíno for Diario Veterinario

The coordinator of VACDIVA, Professor Sánchez Vizcaíno reviewed for Diario Veterinario the current situation of African Swine Fever in the world. In statements made to the Spanish media, the professor of Animal Health from the Complutense University stated that the ASF situation is «worse than ever» since the virus is currently present on four continents and in more than fifty countries. Vizcaíno blames this lack of control on the high density of wild boar population, which facilitates the spread of the virus.

He also spoke about of the progress of the VACDIVA project, which has «encouraging» results. With 87% of the objectives met during the first year, the objectives for the second year will focus on safety so that in the third year in vivo tests can already be carried out in different epimedilogical scenarios, said Vizcaíno.
