The OIE and the FAO, in their goal to eradicate and control the spread of the African Swine Fever virus, are conducting a series of webinars aimed at disseminating information needed to try to curb what they both consider to be an unprecedented global threat.
The opening address was delivered by Mr QU Dongyu, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Ms Monique Eloit, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). The VACDIVA coordinator, Professor of Animal Health at the UCM, José Manuel Sánchez-Vizcaíno, took part in one of these web seminars. As a representative of the project, he had the opportunity to speak about the different vaccination strategies in different production systems and epidemiological situations. Together with him, leading world experts in ASF presented their views on matters such as vaccination protocols, biosecurity measures, control of wild boar populations and adaptations in the livestock sector.
Initiatives such as this, which work at a global level, allow the work of the best experts to focus on the common enemy and establish the most efficient strategies in the fight against ASF.
